A celebrity-inspired procedure, buttock augmentation is one of the fastest growing cosmetic surgery treatments in Colombia. There are two options women can choose from: buttock implants and fat transfer (also known as buttock lipotransfer). In recent years, the buttock lift has become a preferred option, as it provides a natural enhancement using the patient’s own fat. One question most patients ask their plastic surgeon is whether buttock fat transfer is safer than implants.
Before Butt Lipotransfer was introduced, buttock implants were used to help patients improve the appearance of their buttocks. Today, lipotransfer owes much of its popularity to the fact that it uses the patient’s own fat to provide the desired enhancement. Many women do not like having foreign material inserted into their bodies, and for them, buttock fat transfer is the solution.
Buttock implants are artificial devices surgically placed in the buttocks to create volume in the area, but with potential risks, such as infection and delayed healing. Aside from infection, there is a risk of the implants leaking or deflating, resulting in a number of problems. Other risks include implant displacement and capsular contracture. Regardless of following postoperative instructions, displacement can occur and would require additional surgery or removal of the implants. The results of buttock implants are a foreign object that may not be permanent as no implant comes with a lifetime warranty. You will have to undergo replacement surgery at some point in your life.
Buttock lipotransfer is safer because it uses your own fat and is not likely to be rejected. To be a good candidate for this procedure, you must have enough fat to harvest from another area of your body. Lipotransfer is also a “dual benefit” body contouring procedure: it removes unwanted fat by liposuction from the waist and other parts of the body, which reshapes these areas, and uses the harvested fat to enhance the buttock region.
Today, buttock augmentation is safer thanks to the invention of lower buttock lipotransfer. Extremely successful as a safer alternative to the traditional technique, it is a relatively short procedure that allows patients to stay awake throughout the procedure, heal faster and quickly return to their normal routine. The final look and natural feel obtained through fat transfer may not be achieved with implant enhancement.
