Sometimes women notice that their breasts are not as they should be or as most women’s breasts are, as they see that the shape is not what they should be, this being one of the most common reasons why women go to a doctor to see how they can solve their problem.
Among these breast malformations are tubular breasts, so called because of the way they grow. Next, we will tell you a little about this malformation, so you can know if you have it and how you can treat it.
What are tubular breasts?
These are breasts that have grown abnormally, presenting a more elongated, tube-like shape, they are usually quite far apart from each other and the nipples have larger than normal areolas. This deformation represents a more aesthetic than functional problem, since the breasts can still fulfill their function, but their appearance is considered ugly.
Why do tubular sinuses occur?
Tubular breasts are a malformation that some women have from the moment they are born, being determined by an alteration in the genes of the mammary tissues that, upon entering the development stage, cause the breasts to grow abnormally, giving rise to tubular breasts.
It is worth mentioning that although this anomaly is genetic in origin, it is not hereditary, so the daughters of a woman with tubular breasts will not necessarily present the same malformation.
What symptoms can I have if I have tubular breasts?
Tubular breasts are not a disease and, therefore, you will not present any symptoms, what you can do is to observe your breasts and, if you present the following characteristics, it is because you may have this malformation:
- Elongated breasts instead of round, cone-shaped or tube-shaped, also tend to present some flaccidity, generating sagging breasts.
- One breast may be larger than the other.
- You have areolas that are too large.
- The breasts are widely separated from each other.
- The lower part of the breasts hardly grows at all.
- Sometimes the breasts are very small and it is not known that this malformation exists, attributing this to the fact that they simply did not have much development.
There are different degrees of tubular sinus malformation, finding a classification between grade I or mild, grade II or moderate and grade III or severe. This classification depends on several factors in the malformation and is determined by a physician specialized in this area of aesthetic medicine.
Can I prevent tubular breasts from growing?
It cannot be avoided. Because it is a malformation of genetic origin, it is not possible to avoid or prevent it.
In addition, you will not notice that you have it until your breasts develop in that way, being impossible to prevent it, especially because it is not hereditary and, even if your mother or close relatives have it or not, you cannot know if you will have it.
How are tubular sinuses treated?
The only way that currently exists is by surgery, there are no non-surgical methods to give the correct shape to tubular breasts.
The surgical procedure to be performed will depend on the degree of malformation of the breasts, being able to perform a single procedure or, having to perform two different procedures, in case of needing both, these would be performed simultaneously.
Among the procedures, there is the reshaping of the breasts, having to completely change their shape, making a breast lift, as well as a change in the size, shape and location of the nipples and areolas.
Sometimes, with a mammoplasty or breast implants, it is enough, only needing to place a silicone prosthesis in each breast, which, due to its rounded shape, can correct the shape of tubular breasts, giving them the desired normal shape.
However, sometimes it will be necessary to apply both techniques, as one technique alone will not achieve the expected result. This is usually necessary in grade III tubular breasts.
So, if after reading this, you think you may have tubular breasts and wish to correct them, seek a specialist, a plastic or cosmetic surgeon, to evaluate you and determine your degree of deformity and then decide how it can be solved.
