Mastopexy without implants

Mastopexy without implants is a surgical process that helps to reposition the breasts, giving a more natural and proportionate result with the rest of the body.

Women believe that the use of implants is necessary to enhance the breasts, but with mastopexy without implants you can achieve an optimal result. Currently, mastopexy without implants is considered one of the most performed procedures.

Below we explain in more detail everything you need to know about mastopexy without implants.

What does it consist of?

The mastopexy without implants is to restructure the tissues that make up the breast that are muscular, glandular and fatty. Then the excess skin is excluded, in order to give the firmness that the breasts need and obtain the expected result.

In most cases it is necessary to relocate the areola and nipple in a position that is consistent with the shape of the breasts. There are different techniques to model and elevate the breasts, which are used according to the dimension and shape of the breasts.

The scar obtained after the surgery will be vertical and will be located around the areola. In case the skin removal is greater, the scar will remain as an anchor in the mammary sulcus.

What are the reasons for having a mastopexy without implants?

Some women who have a mastopexy without implants are for the following reasons:

  • If the breasts are drooping or sagging. This aesthetic alteration is scientifically known as breast ptosis.
  • Restructure the size and shape of the breasts, so that they are in proportion with the rest of the body. Certain factors such as age, weight loss, hormonal or aging processes can affect the aesthetics of the breasts.
  • Breast reduction in order to alleviate physical symptoms such as back or hip pain.
  • Improve self-esteem.

What should be considered in a mastopexy without implants?

Before you make the decision to have a mastopexy without implants, you need to consider the following:

  • If a large amount of excess tissue is removed, the breast dimension will decrease.
  • If your skin is not of good quality, it can cause a new breast ptosis due to elastin, lack of collagen and gravity.
  • Depending on the degree of your breast ptosis, the type of scar will be determined. Generally, grades 2 and 3 will require inverted T-shaped scars. The incision is made throughout the areola to the submammary fold vertically, in that same area will be joined with a horizontal opening.
  • Usually patients prefer scars around the areola, but they will not achieve optimal results. The inverted T is recommended, since it allows to have the desired effect, in the same way the surgeon will ensure that the scars have the least possible impact.
  • If you have grade 1 breast ptosis where the areola and nipple are located at the level of the submammary fold, the incision to be made will be an areolar approach. This grade is considered one of the mildest cases of breast ptosis.
  • After the operation and the following days of recovery it is normal that the sensitivity is altered in the nipple, areola and nearby skin. Normally, within approximately 30 days all sensitivity will return, although it may take some time.
  • In some rare cases, mastopexy without implants can affect the permanent sensitivity of the breasts.

Care and recommendations after mastopexy without implants

Some things you should keep in mind after having a mastopexy without implants are care, so you do not have problems in the recovery process. Here are some care and recommendations to keep in mind.

Avoidance of harmful habits

After any intervention it is important to take care of the healing process and mastopexy without implants is no exception. If you are a smoker, it is essential that you avoid smoking for 15 days. The reason is that smoking complicates microcirculation, affecting wound healing.

Avoid sun exposure

If the healing process is not yet complete, it is advisable to avoid exposing the area to the sun. In case of doing so, it may suffer hyperpigmentation, causing the scars to become dark in relation to the color of the rest of the skin.

Personal hygiene

Your personal hygiene will not be affected, although you do have to consider certain aspects, such as not getting the sutures wet when taking a shower. Although, you can take a bath on the fourth day after the intervention, the fact is that it is not recommended to take baths until the sutures are removed.

Normally, the sutures are removed in approximately 15 to 20 days. In case you want to wait until the day the sutures are removed, you can clean the area above with moist cloths.

It is necessary to take into account that during the postoperative period of a mastopexy without implants, you will wear bras. Therefore, you have to make sure they are clean to avoid infections.

Resting

After the intervention of a mastopexy without implants, it is very important to rest. In this way avoid great efforts, as well as blows in the area of the breasts. It is recommended not to carry out sports activities or exercise, as it can cause pain, discomfort and severe trauma to the breasts. These factors can impede an ideal healing process.

It is also important to avoid dancing, horseback riding, swimming for a month, while driving is recommended not to do so for 10 days.

During rest and until the healing process is complete, you should wear tight-fitting bras throughout the day and night. These are of the sports type, have no underwire, are adjustable and elastic so they will not bother you. In addition, they have a closure, either at the back or front, so that it is easy to put them on and it is estimated that they will be worn for a month and a half.

After three to six months you can wear any other type of bra, as long as the surgeon approves it.
